Private School Specializing in One-to-One Instruction for Grades 1-12

National — The CDC reports that 1 in 31 children in the United States has autism, a figure that continues to rise and underscores the growing need for educational environments that truly meet students where they are. During Autism Awareness Month, Brightmont Academy, an accredited private school offering fully individualized, one-to-one instruction for students in grades 1–12, emphasizes the importance of personalized education and supportive environments to help students thrive.

At Brightmont Academy, Autism Awareness Month provides an opportunity to foster understanding and strengthen connections within the school community. “Autism Awareness Month plays an important role in raising awareness and spreading understanding among the community regarding students with autism,” said Karen Buckner, CEO of Brightmont Academy. “It’s a great way to create unity among students, staff, and families.”

Buckner emphasized how Brightmont’s model removes many of the barriers that students with autism commonly face in traditional school settings. “In a conventional classroom, students with autism are often navigating sensory distractions, social pressures, and a pace that doesn’t account for how their brain works best,” she said. “At Brightmont, those barriers are simply not part of the equation; each student works in a calm, consistent environment with a teacher who is entirely focused on them.”

She also highlighted how the school’s approach builds student confidence over time. “When a student with autism experiences real academic success, not just accommodations but genuine achievement, it changes how they see themselves as a learner,” Buckner noted. “That confidence carries far beyond our walls.”

Buckner encourages families to see the model in action. “There’s something that happens when a parent walks into a Brightmont classroom and watches their child fully engaged, not overwhelmed. We invite every family to come experience that for themselves.”
