Allonna has always excelled in school. She is an excellent student and most subjects come to her easily. She had been homeschooled since the 6th grade, but as her high school classes became more complex, she thirsted for more rigorous instruction. She wanted more than she could get in online courses and at home study, and she sought out a learning style that was a better fit for her. That is when she turned to Brightmont Academy.
Allonna is currently a senior at the Northville campus of Brightmont Academy and is thriving with her full course load. "I love the teachers and the personal experience they give me," says Allonna. "The teachers can go as fast or slow as you need. They customize school for how you learn," she continued. And it goes beyond academics as they are helping her pursue her interests and challenging her to follow her dreams.
Allonna has a passion for math and science and hopes to one day major in engineering. But before coming to Brightmont, Allonna was not sure what she wanted to pursue in college. "The teachers at Brightmont talked with me and helped me realize what paths would be a good fit for me," she said. They helped her discover that her passion for math and science would be a natural fit for engineering.
Allonna goes on to say that "Brightmont is my perfect school." It is exactly what needs at this point in her life. And it has the right amount of academics and social environment. "Everyone is nice at Brightmont. There is no jealousy or cliques. Everyone is nice to one another," she says. Brightmont has provided an environment where Allonna is supported in reaching her goals. In preparation for college, Allonna recently took the ACT and achieved an outstanding score of 33. Allonna loves coming to school each day and is looking forward to her exciting future!
Allonna would highly recommend Brightmont to any student. "Just walk in the doors and see how wonderful it is."
Kela first came to Brightmont Academy in January of 2016 to get some homework support during her junior year of high school. It did not take very long for the teachers on campus to notice that Kela was a hardworking, dedicated student and that she would be a perfect fit for Brightmont Academy. By the beginning of her second semester of her junior year, Kela was enrolled as a full-time student taking advanced classes in math, chemistry, language arts, history, and the humanities.
Anyone that meets Kela will instantly know that she has a very outgoing personality; she puts others at ease and is always eager to be challenged. During her senior year, Kela was dual-enrolled at Brightmont Academy and at Schoolcraft College. She has already taken some college credit courses that she plans to transfer upon attending Eastern Michigan University where she plans to major in Music Therapy.
While studying at Brightmont Academy, Kela earned a black belt degree in Taekwondo. She continues to volunteer and teach students at her dojang (taekwondo school), while also working part time. Additionally, Kela is a talented musician; she plays trumpet in the Schoolcraft College Jazz Ensemble.
We are very proud of Kela's accomplishments at Brightmont Academy and wish her much luck and success as she moves on to the next chapter of her academic life!
