21-Year History

Helping Students Reach Their Potential

Brightmont Academy was founded with a belief in the power of one-to-one instruction. Twenty-one years later, we are proud to have helped nearly 4,000 students succeed in college and career. Here are stories of four Brightmont graduates:

Our History

Brightmont Academy started when founder Ruth Wilson observed the success each student experienced with one-to-one instruction and wanted to offer that opportunity to more students, using the one-to-one model as a primary vehicle for education rather than as a support service. Inspired, Ruth researched private school requirements and founded the first school in Seattle, Washington in 1999, under the name Educational Advancement Academy, commonly referred to as EA2.

As parents, local education consultants, and medical professionals saw the results and referred more students, two more campuses opened to serve the demand for a one-to-one school option in the broader Puget Sound region. At the first moment of eligibility, the schools pursued accreditation and in 2001, received their initial accreditation through Northwest Accreditation Commission, now a division of AdvancED.

In 2011, the school name changed from EA2 to Brightmont Academy, with all staff and services remaining the same. Brightmont began expanding beyond Washington State by opening seven new campuses in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, and Washington. In early 2015, corporate system accreditation for Brightmont was earned from the respected AdvancED organization (now Cognia), adding corporate systems accreditation to each individual school's accreditation.

Today, Brightmont is comprised of 16 campus locations nationally, all committed to providing effective, in-person, one-to-one instruction. Brightmont expects to open additional new campuses, expanding the one-to-one instruction option to families in even more communities.

The Brightmont Academy corporate office is located at 400 E. Main St. Barrington, IL 60010.
