Brightmont alumna graduates college with highest honors

Erica, a Brightmont alumna, completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Puget Sound in May 2016. Erica graduated Summa Cum Laude with a major in history and minor in German. She also is a member of the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. She attributes much of her success to Brightmont, where she attended high school for four years. “I feel that my academic honors are due largely to the skills and habits I learned at Brightmont, especially critical thinking and independent learning skills,” says Erica.

Transitioning from high school to college was easier for Erica because she was well prepared. “I always felt I had a very real advantage from day one because of Brightmont!” says Erica.

One-to-one instruction at Brightmont helped Erica become more confident and empowered, which prepared her for college. Erica says, “I was nearly always the most outspoken and independently motivated student in any of my classes by a large margin, and I’ve had over half a dozen professors comment on the fact to me. I really felt like my high school experience had taught me to analyze every question as if I would have to answer it, because at Brightmont you can’t coast while other students do the thinking! Consequently I always had a comment or question ready whenever the professor gave us an opportunity. I also felt very comfortable speaking with my professors outside of class and attending office hours because of the close working relationships I was used to at Brightmont.” Four years after graduating from Brightmont, Erica continues to maintain relationships with the Brightmont staff who helped her on her path to success.

We are thrilled about Erica’s achievements in college and look forward to hearing more as she progresses toward her career.
